The 4TU.NIRICT Symposium on Empathic Technology held on May 19th, 2017 in the DesignLab, University of Twente, was a great success! The symposium was filled with 2 keynote talks, 4 stimulus talks, a panel session, and a breakout session where the participants (more than 50) discussed relevant topics in Empathic Computing. The talks covered a broad range of topics in Empathic Computing too. Marc Hassenzahl and Hatice Gunes gave great keynote talks about experience design and affect recognition in HRI respectively, while the stimulus talk speakers talked, among others, about lighting (Dirk Heylen) and the role of context (Joost Broekens) in Empathic Computing. in the final panel session of the symposium, several statements extracted from the breakout sessions were presented to the speakers to reflect on. Finally, heavy discussions among the participants were observed during a “gezellige borrel” that closed the day!
